Both the men’s and women’s 2nd teams were unable to beat tough opponents, losing 3:1 and 3:0 respectively. The away matches continued for Edinburgh’s Volleyball players as the Women’s travelled to Strathclyde and Men travelled to St. Andrews on Sunday.

Despite playing well and coming together as a team, the women were unable to take a set against Strath- clyde, ending with a 3:0 loss.

The men’s team fared slightly better, managing to win a set against a well-trained and organized St Andrews side. However, the opponents proved to be too good for Edinburgh and eventually closed out the match, winning 3:1. Sunday’s match also marked the last day for Coaches Natalie Gordon Hair and Jay Hodgkins. Hair has been a crucial part of the Edinburgh Volleyball club for many years, beginning as a player and later progressing into a coaching role. Every member of the club has prospered under their coaching. They will leave a big hole to be filled.

The Men’s 1st side similarly played away from home against a competitive Northumbria side this week. Despite some promising performances, the team failed to convert their opportunities and eventually lost 3:0. However despite this, team Captain Ross Kirkwood remained positive. Speaking after the match, he said, “The performances are continuing to improve in particular from the passing unit. Some great serving from Maiwald and blocking from Spitz at the net was very promising.

“We are confident for the upcoming game against Strathclyde.”

All teams in the club will be facing tough matches in the coming weeks. The Men and Women’s 2nd teams will be playing Dundee at home this week, while the Women’s 1st team will be playing Nuvoc Volleyball Club in the Scottish Cup.

The club will be looking to bounce back well after these disappointing results.
