Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ feels like a track that doesn’t quite know whether it wants to be a chart-orientated ballad, or the song that they play when they’re ushering you out of the club at 3am. The song doesn’t have any of the particular charms of either, sounding like another randomly put together pop song, with pseudo-meaningful lyrics that remind you of literally every chart song from the past few years.
The track’s most notable feature is Ellie Goulding’s harmonically unremarkable, yet undeniably recognisable voice.
The song seems to rely on the ever-increasingly popular idea that if you say the name of a song as many times as possible in the song then it will make it memorable. However, each line just makes you question to a greater extent the reason that you bothered YouTubing the song, and ultimately brings about no desire ever to hear the song again in your life.
