Roll up! Roll up! The circus is back in town! Edinburgh University Rugby Club have recently announced that they have teamed up with Cirque Ball 2020 to raise money for their partnered charity, Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Cirque Ball 2020 will take place on 27th March at The Jam House and promises to be an evening that emulates the splendour of Cirque du Soleil with dinner, wine and circus games to go with it.

And, if you can believe it, you would even be supporting a good cause whilst enjoying the frivolities.

CHAS is a charity that is committed to helping families who have a child nearing end of life make lasting memories and fill what little time they may have together with happiness.

Set up over 20 years ago, CHAS has helped countless families deal with the issues that come with having one or more child who faces a life-changing illness. Whilst the charity receives funding from the government, it is not enough to continue their vision of helping children across Scotland.

Donations from generous partners such as the Cirque Ball 2020 committee and EURFC are vital to continue the operating of this fantastic charity.

EURFC have a strong tradition of charity work, as they have already raised money for CHAS this year through a sponsored 10km run that members of the club completed and through collection work at local supermarkets over the festive period.

Over the last two years, the university rugby club has also donated over £4,000 to the Doddie Weir foundation, which funds research into curing Motor Neurone Disease and has since launched its fundraising to great heights.

It is therefore with great pride that EURFC has been able to form a partnership with CHAS this year and team up with Cirque Ball 2020 to raise funds for this cause.

The Student contacted the Rugby Club Vice-President for comment on the club’s partnership with CHAS and upcoming fund-raising ball:

“Edinburgh University Rugby Club has a strong tradition of charity work and we are delighted to continue this in 2020 by supporting CHAS, who do fantastic work across Scotland.

The Cirque Ball 2020 Committee have been working really hard to prepare a great evening for the guests attending and importantly in looking to raise money for CHAS. I have no doubt it will be a great evening for all and one that will hopefully raise an important amount of money for an amazing cause.”

The Student also heard from Cirque Ball 2020 President Max Aitken, who expressed his excitement for the upcoming event:

“It should be a really great event for a cause that means a lot to a great deal of families across Scotland.

We hope it will be an evening of enormous fun and games. We’ll have carnival games, exciting raffle prizes and maybe even pyrotechnics…

But it is important not to forget what all of this is in aid of. Ultimately, the committee and EURFC hope to raise a really important donation for CHAS.”

Edinburgh University student societies and sports clubs are often looking to give aid to charities where they can and EURFC are one of many to support events such as this.

It must be said that that the Rugby Club’s ambition in their support of CHAS is exceptionally commendable and if they are able to achieve what they intend to then they could be seen as a model for other societies and clubs to follow in terms of charity work.
