Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Otto and Astrid is a spoof rock show where big sister Astrid and little brother Otto fight for the rock and roll limelight and eventually put their differences aside to play as a band.

This show is a mixed bag and really depends on your sense of humour if you will engage with and enjoy it. Unfortunately, due to not hearing the lyrics most of the time from where I was sat, even if I would have found it funny, I couldn’t; which makes some songs easy to zone out from.

The slapstick set was well connected to Edinburgh and Scottish locals which is well placed and appreciated, but all the real laughs come from Astrid who steals the show with her ‘mean big sister’ demeanour. At the expense of Otto, this is a perfect sibling dynamic.

The songs are generally well performed and they each have good musicianship, but the comedy may only be enjoyable with a decent day-drinking buzz.

Otto & Astrid’s Joint Solo Project runs Aug 10-15 and 17-27. Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/otto-astrid-s-joint-solo-project
