Aussie band Parcels released Hideout as their latest EP. Formed in high school, the five-piece hailing from Byron Bay dabbled in a variety of genres before evolving into their current eletro-pop and funk sound. Through their recent move to Berlin they have since drawn on various European influences and gained some real recognition.
Compared to some of their previous singles, ‘Hideout’ has a subtler electronic vibe, yet the smooth synth tones remain throughout. What is unique about Parcels are the light, melodic five part vocal harmonies juxtaposed against an up-beat tempo and 70s groove bass riff. The result is a soothing soul feel, similar to the likes of Chic, but with a modern indie twist.
Crack this one out in the early stages of a house party and let your shoulders do the talking. This is a song to sway your hips to and sail into the night.
