Jessica Husbands has been elected Edinburgh University Students Association (EUSA) Vice President Services with 1224 votes.
Competing against Madeleine Payne, Husbands achieved quota in the first round of distribution, passing the threshold of 1161 votes.
In her manifesto, Husbands prioritised the creation of choice among students and emphasised mental health issues by calling for group and Skype counselling.
She further stressed the importance of collaboration on two fronts, first between societies and EUSA and second between societies and academic departments.
Husbands also promised a campaign for better housing, where EUSA will become an active voice in the national fight towards rent caps.
Husbands, a fourth-year French and Spanish student, in an active member of the Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds running club and the Edinburgh University Wind Band. She ran against Payne, third year medicine student, who ran on promises to start a fund for new societies, overhaul the room booking systems, and improve counselling availability.
Speaking to The Student after her victory, Husbands said: “I never expected I’d do so well! I feel really great, oh dear I’ve lost my words.
She continued: “I feel amazing I’m over the moon, thank you so much to everyone who voted for me.”
