Polls have official closed across the United Kingdom for those casting their ballots in the historic European Union Referendum.

This nation-wide vote is to decide whether the UK will maintain its membership status in the EU, or whether it will separate itself from the EU permanently.

Scotland’s Chief returning officer Mary Pitcaithly has most recently predicted that the voter turn out for Scotland will range from 70-80 per cent, however no official results have been released.

Edinburgh’s decision is scheduled to be announced between 3 and 4 in the morning, with the UK’s official decision on whether to leave or remain in the EU due to be finalised by 7.
