Last week the electronic trio Major Lazer released a track collaborating with the formidable queen of rap, Nicki Minaj, to produce the upbeat dance track ‘Run Up’.

Following a sample from Beyoncé’s ‘Hold Up’, Minaj whispers ‘barbie’ at the start of the track, referencing her remix of Rae Sremmurd ‘Black Barbies’ and her iconic colourful hairstyles. The first half of the single features PartyNextDoor, emulating the deep, slightly monotonous voice of Drake, with whom who he worked on with his last single ‘Not Nice’. The track really begins to pick up when Nicki begins her verse; “major keys I’m the boss” she raps, never one to understate her accomplishments.

While Major Lazer has collaborated with artists including Justin Bieber, MØ, Ty Dollar $ign and Dirty Projectors, the untouchable Nicki Minaj will undoubtedly be remembered as the highlight of their musical career.
