Andy Goode, 35-year-old former England international fly-half, recently made a comeback in December 2015 by signing with Newcastle Falcons for three months. One commentator suggested it was ‘rather an elaborate way to dodge pre-season’. Goode has attained cult status amongst rugby fans throughout the years. Nghia Mai would like to pay tribute in the form of a parody of Barry Manilow’s ‘Mandy’.
Andy
Playing rugby all your life
Always scored a try
A large figure of a man
A face of a 50 year-old
Kicking from the right
Then it goes right into
You never were a Johnn-aay (Wilkinson)
Never lose any weight
Sipping down a pint
I see a loosehead prop
I never realized
How you manage to play 10, oh Andy
[Chorus]
Well you pass and you kick without exercising
But you win anyway, oh Andy
And you score three and dropkick three
And you don’t warm up today, oh Andy
Standing on the edge of the field
Barely walking around at halftime
Caught up in a world of DC and Farrell
A legend in my eyes
And Newcastle’s latest signing, oh Andy
Well you pass and you kick without stretching
But you win anyway, oh Andy
And you scored three and dropkicked three
And you don’t warm up today, oh Andy
Playing for England’s a dream
When it comes to pre-season
It’s unnecessary
The pie is calling, oh Andy
Well you pass and you kick without moving
But you still win anyway, oh Andy
Well you score three and dropkick three
And you’re don’t warm up today, oh Andy
Well you pass and you kick without conditioning
But you still win anyway, oh Andy
You score three and dropkick three
And you don’t warm up.
