The Vamps – Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)

This track, although mildly catchy and enjoyable, is simply a sick and twisted form of plagiarism. As the fifth single off of The Vamps’ debut album, the very idea of originality is abandoned as the clean-cut British lads rob Simon & Garfunkel of a catchy classic. ‘Cecilia’ was released by Simon & Garfunkel in 1970, but The Vamps clearly assumed that by adding a few words to the song title and inserting some annoying verses (“I turn my radio up and it’s just my luck/Why-y-y-y-y-y-eh me?”), they were doing something innovative. The basic beat and sound of the original is also stolen, but thankfully auto-tune and four hair-flipping, tween-manipulating money leeches have been added. Condolences are sent out to the millions of 13 year olds who are unaware that they are bopping along to a folk rock song that their parents discovered as children around forty years ago.
