It was a successful weekend for the Edinburgh University Trampoline Club (EUTC) at the Scottish Student Trampoline Open 2018. Members of the club placed as follows: 3rd intervanced ladies, 2nd advanced men, 3rd advanced ladies, 3rd elite ladies, 2nd elite ladies and 1st advanced ladies. Team Edinburgh A also placed 3rd. These results move EUTC to 2nd in the league.
It was a mainly positive week for Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club (EUWHC). The 5s sadly lost to Borders, 2-0 however the 7s picked up a 2-0 win against Preston Lodge. The undefeated EUWHC 9s had two fixtures this week winning 6-1 and 2-1 against Dunbar 1s and Stirling Wanderers 2s, respectively. In British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), EUWHC 1s lost 3-0 to the University of Nottingham 1s but the 6s defeated the University of Stirling 3s, 9-0.
Edinburgh University Sailing Club (EUSC) enjoyed their second league weekend, hosted by Edinburgh at Loch Ore. The weekend saw huge winds cancel any activity on the Saturday leading to the competition being postponed until the following week. However, the wind certainly wasn’t in EUSC’s favour, as the following week was cancelled due to lack of wind. Fortunately, the lack of racing meant that both Edinburgh Blue and Green qualified straight to British Universities Sailing Associations finals.
It was another exciting week for Edinburgh University Basketball Club (EUBC) with all six teams in action. The highlight of the week was the women’s 3s beating the University of Dundee 1s, 49-37. The EUBC men’s 2s and men’s 1s played each other for the second time in history, and despite the 2s leading after the first quarter it was the 1s who emerged victorious winning 93-42. The women’s 2s beat the University of Strathclyde 1s, 90-47, and the men’s 3s beat University of Glasgow 2s, 68-63 in a close match. The women’s 1s won 89-53 against Loughborough University’s 1s.
Only one match was played by Edinburgh University Women’s Association Football Club (EUWAFC) this week due to weather conditions. EUWAFC 3s played Edinburgh Napier 1s and came away with a great 2-1 win.
A highlight for Edinburgh University Netball Club (EUNC), saw the 3s beating the University of Aberdeen 1s, 38-25 – for the second time this season – solidifying their place above Aberdeen at the top of BUCS Division 2 league. EUNC 1s faced the 2s, in a close match, with the 2s coming out 41-38 victorious for the first time many years! The 2s are now the undefeated leaders of Division 1. EUNC 4s sadly lost, 47-32, to the University of Dundee 1s and the 6s won, 40-38, in a close match against University of Stirling 2s.
Edinburgh University Curling Club had a challenging start to their Linlithgow League match this week. The team kept their heads in a tight match and gave a very impressive performance to bring the final score to 8-7, securing the win for Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh University Ultimate Frisbee Club (Ro Sham Bo) saw the climax of the Ultimate Frisbee indoor season with the BUCS League Men’s and Women’s Indoor Nationals. Both teams played extremely well, with the Men’s team finishing in 8th place in Division 1 and securing their place within the top bracket whilst also winning the spirit award within the men’s division. However, it was Edinburgh’s Women who stole the show. Following on from their Regionals victory against the University of Strathclyde in the final, both Edinburgh and Strathclyde managed to repeat this feat, where in the Nationals final Edinburgh beat Strathclyde, 6-4, to take the Nationals trophy back to Edinburgh, undefeated!
There were highs and lows for the Edinburgh University Badminton Club (EUBC) this week, with EUBC men’s 1s having a close, nail-biting match against Nottingham Trent University 1s winning, 5-3, in the end. EUBC (mixed) 1s had a tremendous, 12-0, victory against University of Stirling 1s. EUBC 2s lost to the leaders of Scottish 1A, the University of Strathclyde 1s, 9-3, and the EUBC 4s had a tough, 10-2, loss against The University of Aberdeen 2s.
