Vegan friendly Baileys has been launched in the UK

After launching in the USA earlier this year, Baileys have finally brought their vegan liquor to the UK! Following the launch of their dairy-free drink last year, Baileys Almande is new, improved, and entirely vegan-friendly. Removing the honey and beeswax included in their last recipe, this drink is made with almond milk, almond essence, cane sugar, purified water and real vanilla.

According to The Vegan Society, there are over half a million vegans in Britain, and 42 per cent of all those are in the 15-34 age category. An article in The Telegraph claimed that in the last ten years the number of vegans in the UK has grown by 350 per cent. With these numbers rising numbers, it is no wonder the excitement surrounding the launch of this delicious alcoholic beverage.

Unfortunately, the liqueur will be released exclusively at Whole Foods Market UK on the 18th September, however there is hope that based on the high demand and excitement it has already procured, it will soon be more readily available. Until then, in anticipation of the fast-approaching festive period, here are some vegan-friendly recipes to make with Baileys Almande:

Baileys Almande Iced Coffee

The necessary ingredients for this recipe are 50ml of Baileys Almande and 100ml of coffee. The method: add Baileys Almande and the coffee to a cocktail shaker full with ice, shake, strain into a glass with ice and serve.

The Countess (Strawberry and Baileys Almande)

Ingredients: 50ml Bailey Almande and 1 large fresh strawberry (or two small fresh strawberries) Method: Add the strawberries and the Baileys to a blender with a few ice cubes and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass with ice and serve

South Beach – Baileys Almande and Coconut Water

To make a South Beach you’ll need 80 ml Baileys and roughly 80 ml Coconut Water, add both ingredients to a cocktail shaker full of ice, and then shake and strain into tall glass over ice. Garnish with shaved coconut for a fancy twist.

Slippery Nipple

Ingredients: 15 ml Baileys Almande, 15 ml sambuca, a drop of grenadine. First, pour the Sambuca into a shot glass and pour the Baileys on top. Add a drop of the grenadine to make the ‘nipple’ (a glacé cherry will also do the trick!)
