Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club shoot and score in this week’s sports round-up

There were impressive results for the Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club with the 8s winning 4-1 against a joint team of Falkirk and Linlithgow. The 9s won 4-2 against Borders 5s. The 2s, meanwhile, played in the BUCS Trophy against the University of Liverpool and lost 3-0. The 3s played the University of Leeds 2s in their BUCS Trophy match, winning 7-6 on flicks to progress. Finally, the 5s won their conference cup match 4-0 against Glasgow Caledonian University.

Within the Edinburgh University Swimming and Water Polo Club, the swim team won 157-91, against University of Dundee, keeping up their unbeaten streak. The water polo men’s 1s lost 15-0 away to Northumbria University men’s 1s and the men’s 2s played the University of Glasgow, losing 7-5 at the buzzer.

The winning streak carried on for the Edinburgh University Futsal Club men’s 1s in their first season in the BUCS Premier North. The game was tight, but a conversion from an impressive passing display saw the team win 6-5 against Durham University 1s.

Edinburgh University Cricket Club had its first BUCS indoor tournaments. The men’s 1s won all three matches against Durham University 1s and EUCC men’s 2s and 3s. The men’s 2s won two of three games. Unfortunately, the men’s 3s failed to win a game. The women’s 1s also lost matches against University of Leeds, University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University down in Durham.

The Edinburgh University Windsurf and Surf Club competed in the BUCS University Surf Competition. Oscar Manville-Hales and Holly Graves, came second and first in their respective heats. They both progressed into round two, but sadly didn’t progress any further.

In an outstanding individual performance, Zoe Horseman represented Edinburgh University Olympic Weightlifting Club and Team Scotland this weekend at the Celtic Nations Sinclair Competition. She completed a 73/76kg snatch and a 90/95kg Clean & Jerk to earn an overall win for Scotland.

The Edinburgh University Netball Club 2s beat the University of St Andrews 1s 65-52, and the 6s played Queen Margaret University 1s, losing 45-27.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh University Ladies Rugby Football Club 1s secured a 20-17 victory over Northumbria University for the first time, retaining top of the league status. EULRFC 2s played Edinburgh Napier University 1s, sadly losing 74-0.

Edinburgh University Squash Club men’s 1s team lost 4-1 to Bridge of Allan. The men’s 2s carried on their winning streak, beating Watsonians 3-2. The women’s 1s lost 3-2 to Edinburgh Sports Club and the women’s 2s won 3-2 win over Abercorn at home.

In one of the performances of the week, the Edinburgh University Rugby Football Club 1s beat top of the table Nottingham 14-10 in a ‘BUCS Match of the Day’ thriller. EURFC 2s played Robert Gordon University 1s away in Aberdeen, returning with a 29-15 victory.

The first ever match for the Edinburgh University Fencing Club (EUFC) 3s unfortunately ended in a 132-105 loss against the University of Stirling. EUFC won the épée 45-42 but narrowly lost the sabre 45-43.

There was another a historic match as Edinburgh University Basketball Club men’s 1s and men’s 2s played each other, for what is believed to be the first time ever. The men’s 1s won 93-45 at the close. The women’s 2s remain undefeated in BUCS after beating the University of Strathclyde 1s, 69-47.

The first sailing event for Edinburgh University Sailing Club saw two teams head south for the Leeds Howler. Despite battling the crazy winds of Storm Brian, Edinburgh Blue won all of their races to take the overall win. Edinburgh Green finished 6th overall.

Competing in Perth, Edinburgh University Curling Club 1s played against a combined team of the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University 1s, ending in a 6-5 loss and a  game against Aberdeen/RGU 2s ended in a 17-0 win. EUCC 2s came away with a 9-7 win against the University of Glasgow 1s and just lost 5-4 against Aberdeen/RGU 1s.

Edinburgh University Trampoline Club competed in Stirling at their first SSS competition of the year.  The winners of individual medals were; Sophie Weeden – 1st Intermediate Ladies, Jessica Dove – 2nd Intervanced Ladies, Cameron Angus – 2nd Intervanced Men, Jack Robinson – 1st Advanced Men, Julian Douglas – 1st Elite Men.

Edinburgh University Association Football Club men’s 1s played the University of Strathclyde 1s, winning 3-0. The 2s match against Strathclyde 2s finished with a 1-1 draw. Finally, the 4s played the University of Glasgow 3s, losing 6-5.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh University Women’s Association Football Club 2s played against University of Glasgow 1s sadly losing 3-0, while the 3s also lost, going down 3-1 to Glasgow Caledonian University 1s.

Finally, Edinburgh University Badminton Club women’s 1s lost 8-0 to University of Birmingham 1s. EUBC 1s fought hard but lost 8-4 in the end to University of Strathclyde 1s. EUBC 2s lost to the University of Glasgow 1s 12-0. EUBC 3s also sadly lost to Glasgow Caledonian 1s, 12-0.
