Together

Anything starring Alex MacQueen, Neil’s dad from The Inbetweeners, I’ll watch. Thankfully, BBC3’s latest sitcom Together does not disappoint. Its amusing, albeit fairly cliché characters, deliver an easy watch.

Hopeless romantic, Tom, (Jonny Sweet), still lives with his endearing parents who epitomise the typical middle class Mum and Dad and are very similar to the parents in Channel 4’s hilarious, Friday Night Dinner. Through coincidence, or perhaps more precisely, “fate”, Tom keeps bumping into arty, East London Ellen, (Cara Theobold), rather unromantically; it is not exactly your typical love story.

The development of their relationship is executed brilliantly through some cringe worthy moments. The programme’s real credit however, lies with Tom’s hilarious parents, Ashley (Alex MacQueen) and Lesley (Vicki Pepperdine). Where Together’s storyline falls short is Pepperdine and MacQueen’s chemistry. Yet, its writing redeems this; even MacQueen eating a raspberry “yog” made me laugh and I have high hopes he will continue to delight viewers.
